I work for a computer company that sells software to excavating contractors. Many of our customers are former heavy equipment operators. And let me tell you....most of them can't hardly hear anything. One of the peices of hardware we sell makes a few beeps on boot-up of the computer, and I'll say "let me know if you hear the beeps", and they'll swear they didn't hear anything, while in the meantime, I hear it through their phone! I read a post on the JD forum about straight pipes. I think they sound cool, but don't be silly. Even short exposure to that will cause damamge to your ears. I am 40, with excellent hearing, and plan to keeep it that way. I wear hearing protection when running my tractor, woodworking , shooting, etc. Mostly because I have first hand observations of what happens when you don't. You don't want to be that old guy saying "What?" all the time..... Take Care Steve
