Kevin, I think they had them both ways, the older ones with hand brakes as Ted suggested. Later on they appeared (according to my manual) to have foot brakes, a real modern convenience I guess at the time! The hand brakes were just as good but of course they took a hand off the wheel which could prove inconvenient and a little dangerous at times given how the steering wheels, especially on narrow front tractors, could "kick back" and hurt you when they hit something wrong.
