Most operate at 540rpm, if you have a tach just throttle up until the corresponding scale reads that. If you don't have a tach, approx. 2/3 throttle is close. Then choose the gear you are comfortable driving with. For normal pasture work I use 1st gear Hi range, for hilly or thick grass or brush I use 3rd gear lo range. Individual preferences are quite different, so experiment. Just remember not to drive sideways on steep slopes, any sudden bump or jolt may throw you and tractor over and usually you will not get a second chance.
