Some refineries & distributors #2 diesel & home heating oil is the same other than the dye. Sometimes heating fuel doesn't have the "cetane" additive ( opposite of octane) to allow easier ignition in a compression ignition engine. Winter diesel and stationary turbine fuel has more kerosene mixed in & more wax/paraffin & sulphur removed.
