I liked the overall premise of the show and the characters, but one has to remember it's scripted and produced for an audience, so you have all the nonsense that goes with it, which I have to believe is why they portray some real foolishness at times. I guess you can't get a television show produced without this element of nonsense, they must think the audience is uniformed, gullible or naive about the subject matter. The idea that they will go and help out a homesteader by building it better or a complete rebuild is great, because each one is different, and you could possibly learn something by watching. However, the added drama, scripted situations and things similar incorporated to potentially "dazzle" the audience, fills the show with too much fluff.
Mountain Men - Tom, how many enjoy watching what he does ? So their are parts of it which are really interesting to watch and learn, but its outnumbered by drama and other like things written in that one may not care about. So, it all depends on how much of this you have to get through to get to the parts you really want to see.
I don't turn the set on all that much lately, but have seen this show quite a bit. One scene where the son, (son daughter and father with stetson hat that help these people), tosses a log into the homesteaders pick up truck and sends it right through the back window. Any fool who loads their truck with firewood knows better, uses a plywood headboard or something similar, or just uses lots of care when loading. That was just plain stupid, but you know it was written in for "effect" or something.

In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
