I've got a 1976 John deere 2440. Getting to the point I think I need a clutch repair.
My symptoms are clashing of the gears that are worse after the tractor warms up and if I'm baling or other significant work.
It's not slipping or moving after I put in the clutch. Just a lot of grinding when I try to shift. Periodically, I can get it to shift nice and smooth but it's getting more uncommon.
I've adjusted the external clutch pedal and I've greased the throw out bearing. Looks like the clutch pedal yoke was already tightened to nearly the end of the available adjustment.
The tractor does have a high low transmission.
How bad of a job is this to do? I called JD dealer and I'm waiting on a cost estimate from them but I'm thinking about doing it myself.
