....may be interested, possible even saddened, to learn that Jim Clark, Jr., master shooter and master gunsmith from Princeton, La., passed away last week at age 59. Stomach cancer. Jim ran Clark's Custom Guns, a business begun by his father Jim Sr., who developed an affection for the 1911 while in the Marines in the South Pacific. In 1950 he set up a shop where he hot-rodded 1911s and Rugers (primarily) for high-performance in competition.
Between them, Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. owned multiples of just about every shooting title that exists. Furthermore, Jim Jr.'s sister, Kaye, owns just about all of the womens' shooting titles. Her husband, Jerry Miculek, has been called by some "the greatest shooter of all time". Don't know about that but he has won some titles.
The original Clark shop was about a mile from where I now live. I bought my 1911 from Clark, though it is not a custom gun.
