I used to buy thermal fuses at Radio Shack for a buck or two. Not sure if RS is still in business. The temperature rating of the fuse used to be determined by the color on the one end of fuse.
No other fuse will replace a thermal fuse. Sometimes the temp rating was stamped on the fuse.
Many are not fans of Lowes, however my last whirpool washer lost a bearing in 2 years. I purchased a 5 year extended waranty from Lowes. They come to the house in the country twice to repair it and finally gave me my money back because it would cost more to repair than it was worth.
Guess there is some benefit to Lowes. They also delivered, set it up and removed the bad one for FREE.
