Break aways don't have to be complicated. Most places that sell the couplers will also have a clamp type arrangement that clamps around the collar on the coupler and attaches that to the tractor.
In the event of the implement coming unhitched the hose pulls on the body of the coupler and the collar is attached to the tractor which releases the hose. This all sounds much more complicated than it really is. Simple version is the bits to make the breakaway work would be no more than $10 plus your couplers which you need anyway.
If you are plowing with a plow that has a hitch that will release when a obstruction is encountered breakaway couplers on the hydraulics are a absolute must. For other things it is highly recommended.
