Subaru has an assembly plant in Indiana. We have bought three in the past 22 years. First one ("91 Legacy) was 10 years old when it got totaled in a rollover by our oldest son. Second one (01 Legacy) was totaled when a van in the opposite lane turned left in front of it and got totaled. Bought an identical one that our youngest now drives. Mechanically they are very reliable. Parts are readily available and not bad to work on. Would be really great if they would bring their turbo diesel to North America, because I don"t think their gas mileage is all that great. Yes, timing belt needs to be changed every so often, but I have done three and they are not so bad.
