This time of year, you cannot tell just what you might run into, weather wise, traveling in Montana, or for that matter, Wyoming or Idaho.
If I was sending my Wife and son out on such a trip, I would obtain the proper set of cable chains for the tires on the car they were driving, as well as chain tighteners. And I would make absolutely sure my son really knew how to install and tighten the chains so they will stay on, but not hit the bodywork. I would also send them off with a shovel and probably some sand or cat litter. Good flashlights and supplies to keep them going if they get stranded for an extended time period are also good ideas.
Or the roads might be just fine...you never know.
There is wonderful skiing near Kalispell at Whitefish Mountain. Hope it all works great and they have lots of fun!
