Photoreactive silica is techincal enough, I can't immagine brewing that on the kitchen range! If you can buy bits and pieces and assemble it yourself... how much can you save? Especially if it is Chinese production line labour cost? They muck it up, you take it back, you mess up you own project... you eat the cost. I bought a small 1.5 watt 'battery maintaner' thing, size of a shoe box lid, makes 18.7 volts from a 60watt lightbulb! Only thin I was told to worry about with solar power panels, not so much water, is the eventual clouding of the plastic sheet. This is where 'customizing' of factory panels would be worth the effort, replacing the cheezy stuff with tempered glass etc... have fun!
