: : I saw below a lot of posts on Scrapping. I part out some tractors that are somewhat past the point of running again. The parts are used to make other tractors run again. Does this come under the heading of Scrapping? : Not in my book. A scrapper is just that; a person interested in metal for it's scrap value. A person who takes the time and energy to reduce a non-viable machine to it's component parts for re-use is providing a valuable and much needed service. Not to mention allowing others to continue using/restoring their old machines at a reasonable cost. There is a vast difference between scrapping and parting-out. Long live the recyclers! Scrapping is inexcusable no matter what. The posts I read were talking about parting out, not scrapping.Sounded to me like the argument wasn't really about whether parting out was bad or not.I think it was just a matter of what people define as non-viable. Is a tractor with busted transmission castings non-viable?In my book it sure is!What about missing sheet metal? Or just needing an engine overhaul?Or just tired but re-buildable?I (and I think most Ford tractor lovers) would sure rather see these rebuilt or restored rather than parted out.But parted out is sure a lot better than scrapped out!!
