On our 40th, (seven years ago), we had an open house in our church fellowship hall in the afternoon, and hosted a short list at our local country club in the evening.
Not much on formal gifts anymore. If one of us wants/needs something special withing a month or two, the other will buy it and say it's for our anniversary.
