D-282's were never in 806's, thank goodness, at least not a production one. Early 706's did have the D-282 available. For some reason IH loved those big injector/pre-combustion cup glow plug buggers, and used that series of engines from the late 50's in the 60-series tractors and in combines into the mid-70's, several years after the D/DT-361's and a few years after the D/DT-407's were out of production. (The D/DT-407 is the "younger, but larger brother" of the D/DT-361 engine.)
C-301 gas or LP and the D-361 should have been available from the begining until the end of production of the F-806, I-806, and 2806.
Some 806 diesels do have turbochargers, but none left the factory that way, all were added later.
RD pumps were factory equipment on early 806D's. According to the parts book, Roosa-Masters were the pumps on Farmalls SN. 23979 and up. That would be sometime in late '65 if I read everything right. Even a handfull of very early 706 diesels (There's the D-282 engine again) got RD pumps.
Probably 75% or more of the RD pumps have been changed to Roosa Master pumps. IH had a kit to do it. They weren't bad pumps or anything, but parts availibility hasn't been good for the RD pump for a long time. Many shops won't touch them. Some don't know what they are. Roosa Master is now Standyne if I remember right.
Unfortunately, some of the most reliable diesel engines IH ever made (D/DT-361/407) were only made for about a decade. Many 806 diesels have 10,000+ hours and have never been overhauled, and don't need to be.
Sort-of OT, but a guy who pulled a 1206 (DT-361) in the 60's and 70's told my dad once that a factory Roosa-Master pump on a 1206 was like putting a Wisconsin engine carburetor on a 454 Chevy engine. He even sent the head off his pump to a jewler in Chicago to enlarge the passages when nobody would do it locally. When running it on a dyno at a dealer one night, someone thought the town was on fire. He farmed with it too. Must not have hurt it too bad, the tractor is still running today.
