Preliminary handicap lift plan

This is the plan so far for the handicap lift I talked about last week. I've been refining it since I took on the job and I think I've got it mostly figured out. It is going to be like a mini forklift boom.

The side rails will be bent out of 3/16 plate and will be 3 1/8" x 1 1/2" inside dimension. Then I'm going to line it with 1/2" thick UHMW plastic. This is a very tough fibrous plastic that is very slick. It was used by Schlagel Man. to make slides for grain gates and so I'm sure it will work as a wear surface here. The mast will be 4' long and will be attached to the outside of the loader frame and be 18" off the ground.

The inner frame will be made of 2x2x3/16 tube and be 36" long and so even on the ground will have about 18" still in the mast so it should be very stable.

The mast will be mounted to the main loader bracket so it stays on the tractor even if the loader is taken off. I will start by bolting 2 angles to the lower frame where there is a 3/8" plate. Then weld 2-6" channels to them to get out to the mast, they will be welded to the outside of the mast.

I bought a 1700 lb. lifting and pulling winch to do the work. It is designed to be for lifting loads and claims to have excellent control and holding ability. It will be mounted to the top of the mast. It has a 7 ft./min pull rate on the inner wrap, but I'll leave all the cable on. I've bought 2 extra pulleys so I'm hoping for a 1 minute lift time to lift the 3' that is needed. I may have to remove 1 pulley to get that. It is remote operated so he will have easy access.

The standing platform will be 14"(the max between the loader and tire) by 24" and have a pipe railing to hold on to.

Would like a advice if you see any obvious shortcomings. Thanks.

Today's Featured Article - What Oil Should I Use? - by Francis Robinson. I keep seein this question pop up over and over again in discussion groups all over the web. As with many things there are often several right answers and a few wrong ones. Some purist I'm sure will disagree to no end with what I will tell you but most of us out here in the real world don't really care do we ? Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You ...
