A 4 X 4 compressor is a single stage unit that will get "very hot" if it runs at higher than design speed. Bear that in mind. I do not design compressors but have been in marketing sales and service of all types of air compressors. I would say that it should run about 800 to a max 1100 rpm. Good luck!!
