1234, Okay, if you have a blue spark and it runs, you probably need to focus on the fuel side of things. As mentioned above, if the engine runs but is surging, you should check the govenor linkage (spring stretched or broke?). You might also check your gaskets on the carb. to see if one might be ripped or have a hole covered up. By the way, I might have missed it, but what brand of engine is it? I am thinking its a Briggs&Stratton if its on a murray.
