For new usernames, you will no longer be able to create one without putting in an email address. Too frequently (multiple times a day), people ask for the passwords on usernames that have had no email put on them. Most of the time, I'm going to give that password out, that depends on how many posts have been done from the username. It is normal that most people don't actually know what their username is so that is why the issue comes up so often.

Technically, if a username doesn't have an email, it's not really owned by anyone. As far as the email required on the username, I don't actually care if it's a "real" email because we don't mail anything to people. I just need something that isn't visible to others that the owner can recite back to me, something to privately identify them. For example joesmith9999999@notrealmail.com may not actually exist, but I want the person asking for the password to tell me that is the email on the username.

This doesn't impact existing usernames, though I would suggest, if you don't have an email on your username, you should put something on there that you can use to identify yourself.

One other minor change with this update, is you can no longer create a username that has the password set to the username. Usernames set up that way are constantly being compromised by spammers.

Today's Featured Article - The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac. ... [Read Article]
