So I couldn't resist driving all the way home 3 hour drive to put Bob's idea to the test, we'll I found a stiff wire , removed spark plug number one, snaked the wire down past the lifters and let it rest on top of the piston, I then hand cranked the engine until the wire rose, when it appeared to be done rising I was at 10:00 I continued to crank the engine until I hit 12:00 it's kinda hard to tell but I don't think the piston went down at all from 10 to 12 so I called 12 TDC. Next I removed the mag spun the gear until the rotor was pointing at number one turned the gear just a little to see the X thru the site plug, and reinstalled the mag. Then I went with the stock firing order 1342 . Before installing the plugs I turned off the lights in my shop and hung the plugs attached to the wires where I could see all 4 and once again hand cranked the engine, the firing order is now correct 1342 . I set the flywheel X at 12 and when that mark comes around the rotor snaps and the plug sparks at 10 so am I off a little? I guess what I'm saying is it seems TDC is 10:00 and the rotation down begins maybe 12:30 1:00? I tried to start it with calling TDC 12 and didn't get anything so should I try 10:00 as TDC? Remember the snap and spark happens at 10:00 but yet it seems the piston from 10 -12 kind of sits there doesn't go up or down, would changing TDC to 10 make a difference ?If I reset the flywheel to 10:00 the mag should be reset to the same position correct ? x thru the window? I have to be close I just thought if the timing is only a couple cranks off it would still at least try to start but I got nothing.

As a novice though I didn't appreciate the fact that there were so many Fordson tractors made, that all the other makes seem rare by comparison. As far as I was aware a fordson was a fordson and it was only through trial an
