Thomas.........Far as I know, 9N's were painted all-over machine grey, similar to what TO-20's & 30's were originally.

In addition to the paint codes listed by the other guys, consider the tractor paint from TSC. Far as I can tell, the shade of grey is pretty close to the original, but it cost a fraction of what NAPA or a paint shop will charge you.

I painted my 9N with it last Spring, used the hardener with it. It came out real nice. So far, the finish has stood up to the abuse it receives from me spilling gas on it, driving thru mud & multiflora.

9N & 2N Ford Grey
Martin-Senour Paint #6019, Ford Ferguson Gray
NAPA #99L3732 gray
TISCO #TP230 gray
Cote-All Tool Gray #AZ-0405, Diamond Vogel Paints

Ferguson Gray (TO-20/30 and Ferguson implements prior to 1955)
Du Pont 652
NAPA 10039
PPG 32676
S-W 1337
Vapormatic VLB5195

If you search the archives on this site you will see that most people say that NAPA 99L3740 grey is the best match (though not cheap). Probably no exact right or wrong however as I have heard that they could come from the factory in slightly different shades.

Anyway, the color for casting and sheet metal is a medium (battleship) grey, forest grey, industrial grey. NAPA and others have rattlecans that work well for touch up, but if you are painting the whole tractor you will want to use the real stuff with a hardener and proper thinning.

MF does sell the correct shade of Grey for these tractors now and its called "Vintage Ferguson Grey" This vintage Ferguson grey comes in a 1-litre can, product code 3931028M5 and a 400ml aerosol, product code 3931928M7.It has Harry Ferguson's name on the side and Banner Lane Coventry and the Ferguson Logo as well to let you know its genuine; and the shade is correct.

Its yer tractor, paint it any color that pleases you (as long as it is NOT green & yellow)..........respectfully, Dell the colorblind 20/20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph)

Today's Featured Article - Product Review: Electronic Ignition - by Staff. Oil, for example has come a long way in the last 50 years and I don't use anything but the latest API grade available. I've heard the arguments for non-detergent oils but would never trade it for today's formulations. Paint is another, the modern acrylic enamels are great for resistance to grease and fuel stains, retaining their shine and they last forever; unlike enamels and lacquers . Still another is the alternator. No doubt using the original generator keeps the tractor pure, but for thos ... [Read Article]
