If a carb is in rough shape with rust and crud, I will soak in a bath of white vinegar for a few weeks before cleaning. I have pictures of a before and after M/S TSX33 carb that I did using vinegar and you'd be amazed at the outcome. After vinegar bath and cleaning, it gets rinsed in clean vinegar before going right into a soap and water bath to neutralize the acidity of the vinegar, then air blown dry then a bath of pure mineral spirits, air blown, then a bath of denatured alcohol to remove moisture, oily residue, and any leftover stains. Basically my method.
