I am currently looking at getting some parts to replace some damage to the adjustable rod on the right side of the levelling box assembly. It's a 1949 8N-serial no. 194800
The damage was due to the back end of the adjusting handle making contact with the top of the axle housing. I imagine a little pressure caused by backing up with a load on the drawbar may have added to the problem. It ended up bending the upper shaft just below the bevel gear which of course, cracked off a part of the nipple at the bottom of the housing that the gears are in.
To prevent this from happening again, I've been trying to find a way of making an adjustment to keep the lift arms from lowering so far as to allow this contact. I haven't come across anything on this yet.
I would like to figure this out, as I plan on pulling the lift cover and dropping the pump to give it a thorough cleaning and new fluid. Don't want to do that twice if the solution is something inside the case.
