Dave........it is difficult to teach shadetree mechanics basic electrical theory 'cuz they don't listen. Now pay attention. The 4-nipple frontmount dizzy now has 2-versions of squarecan ignition coils for sale. And unfortunately neither have part numbers molded in the plastic ...or... other identifying characteristics. Just the BOX that the coil came in will give the design volts. (ie...6V or 12V, understand the difference?)

So you replace the coil, WHAT version??? 6V or 12V???......and how did you decide you needed a new coil???
Ballast resistors are like lightbulbs, they either work ...or... they don't ...and... when they don't, guess what??? NO SPARKIES!!!
Biggest cause of "no sparkies" is the points. (gapped 0.015") ALWAYS clean/polish the points after installation. Me? I clamp a clean $1-bill between the points and pull. Iff'n yer really cheap, tear a strip from HEAVY brown paper grocery sack and use that.

Ennytime you have "starting issues", change yer sparkies......NO ARGUE!!!!
We recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025"...... Don't throw yer FLOODED sparkies away, just clean'n'dry them one-atta-time in HOT running engine and save'um fer the next time (and there will be a next time)
As fer changing sparkie wires, make certain you use old fashioned COPPER-CORE sparkie wires (cut to length) Many shadetree mechanics miss-wire sparkies 3&4. The N-Engine is SOOOoooo GOOOoood that it will start and run on just 2-sparkies (cyl 1&2)

Replacing yer weaksister ignition switch is always a good idea. Causes weak sparkies after about 15-mins running time.

How did you decide you needed a new Bendix drive???

You do know ittza 2-bolt 15-min job to replace yer points (0.015") on the kitchen table, don't you??? Just un-snapple yer capple and letter dangle. Un-bolt and walk. Replacement is a reversal of the removal ...except... finger start the 2-bolts, then install the rotor. Now rotate yer rotor with OFFSET tang so it fits into the camshaft OFFSET drive slot. When matched tang-to-slot, the dizzy is in perfect time. Now TIGHTEN the 2-bolts and re-snapple yer capple. Simple, eh?
