Just got back from Hawaii - visited pearl harbor for the first time - very interesting. Was strange to see all the Japanese tourists walking around taking pictures - wondered what the old ones thought of it - asked a guide and he said on the whole they did not show much emotion - however, what did cause a lot of interest was the photos and information about the Kamakazi pilot who attacked the ship - the fact that they gave his remains a proper burial with respect really affected them.
did you know that Pearl harbor got its name because a lot of oysters were harvested there and many pearls collected? many years later due to silting and pollution no more oysters and according to a museum we visited no major museum in the world has one example of a Hawaiian pearl from Pearl harbor.
