with our Company no longer having a mechaninc.. about once a week I get to be the tool truck driver :)
this morning i got to work on a converted sewer vacume truck that we use to clean out culvert pipes.
some electrical work for the electric over hyd boom switches.. then some large plumbing work putting htat large snout back together.. it comes off in 3 segments.. each is about 8' long and weighs more than me. 2 flange connections..a nd 2 smooth unions that are interference fit.. on 10" HDPE style pipe.
I can tell you plenty of atf was used as lube. fun part is you are working up on top of the truck coaxing them pipes together. fun fun fun.
just finished putting some of the hyds back together.. has a lil roller servo switch that senses piston stroke witha machined surface on the end of the rod.. as rod diameter changes it pushes in the roller switch reversing stroke.. etc.. bronze bushing the snd of the piston rides in.. the one witht he machined ramp, the bushing was egged letting the rod ride over to the side 1/8" and thus not making the roller move in enough to trip the switch to reverse the stroke. bronze bushigns wre 2 part. temp fix for today was using a socket to driv ethe bushings out and flip them and put the one witht he most worn edge at the base of the piston where it is mor eor les always piloted and won't matter.. and new diameter at the front end where it really matters.
for ford topic.. there is a ford industrial engine on the rear of the truck as the power unit for the fan ( pto/trnas ) and the limited boom hyds. hyds is via a belt driven side pump that looks curiously like a power steering pump ;)
