Looks like the purpose of the tab is to keep the grill from falling to far forward if you needed to tilt it ahead to clean the radiator. The pins at the bottom of the doglegs that fit into the bottom of the grill do more to keep it in place. If you do need the tab maybe you could fab one up from the stock from an old fender or other piece of "N" sheet metal.
