i vote for finding the problem and fixing it, before removing or adding anything.. :)
the main issue i see with small gas filters is that they are so fine, finer than a screen.. that small 'fines' seem to get them. we have dust here.. and it finds it's way into anything. orange dust. makes it into the vented gas tanks and cans. have seen it in filters.. that and the dad gum water than makes gummy mess.
at least with the metal screens and sediment bowls, the stuff just sinks. I prefer those to the paper pleated filters... i imagine in arid environments, the water is no concern... here in florida it is though.. I have half a thoughttha that may be what guns up the needle valves.. emulsified water and fuel by products after airiated alcohol and volatiles and propane evap out.. :)
