'52 8n side mount. Original 6 volt system.
Lately, when I go to start it, the starter turns the motor over once, then the starter "spins" and does not engage the flywheel anymore. Luckily the motor starts easily so I just have to bump the starter button a couple times and it will finally start on the first revolution. It is annoying waiting for the starter to spin down though.
I'm told I need a new bendix spring for the (original 6 volt) starter, as these things wear out.
Before I go and buy a new bendix, is there something else I should be looking for? I know there are no flat spots/missing teeth on the flywheel as I recent re-timed the tractor and suffice it to say, I've seen every inch of the flywheel, and it looks good.
