Terry, you're in good shape if the hubs are tight. Early 8Ns have only the outer axle seal. Should be able to get these for $25. You only need to pull the left trumpet in order to tighten both lift arm pivot bolts - Trumpet gaskets are pretty cheap - Postage will likely cost more than the gasket.
After the repair, make sure you retorque the axle nut after every 10 hours until one day it won't tighten anymore - May take 3-4 times before it bottoms out.
