I have a 1950 8N that my Dad purchased in 1954 when I was a young boy. He had a Model 19-21 Dearborn loader that we used on the 8N since about 1960. I have not used the loader for several years and recently had it sold to someone who also had an 8N. However, when we tried to mount the loader on his tractor we had major problems. The oil pump on the loader is driven by a 1/2 inch splined shaft, that is about one foot long that goes through the crank hole, though about a 2 inch hole in the center of the front axle, and then into a splined hole on the front of the engine. However, the front of the engine of buyer's 8N did not have a splined hole nor did it have a hole through the center of the front axle. We found no way to insert a splined shaft into the front of the engine. He then went home and got his 9N...and we had different problems. It had a plate behind the grill with a small hole through which to insert a crank but no splined hole in the front of the engine. It did have a small shaft coming from the front of the engine into which you could insert a crank. My questions are: Do some 8N engines have a splined hole in the front and some do not? Do some have a 2 inch hole in the center of the front axle and some not? Was there some type of a conversion kit added to my tractor before we purchased it in 1954? Is there some type of a "conversion kit" needed to mount a Dearborn loader on the 8N or 9N??? ANY ASSISTANCE HERE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANK YOU. LYLE
