My 1950 8N owners manual recommends 80 or 90W MILD EP gear oil. The EP additives protect the rear end gears. The GL-1 stuff has NO EP additives. The GL-5 stuff has too much additives. Too much is supposed to eat up yellow metal. Please read the link to Pennzoil GL-4. It has the EP additives, but not so much as to cause problems with yellow metal. It's your tractor, use what you feel comfortable with. I feel comfortable with GL-4 in mine.
