Matt, Read the thread at the link posted below. After you go to the link, paste the following into your browser web location field to see all the responces at once. Looking at the link below will show you the "order" of the responces, something lost in the "view whole thread" mode. ** http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=nboard&th=25127 ** It is mostly on 6V to 12V conversions BUT 8V is also mentioned. Going to 8V has the same reasons as going to 12V generally, so I think all the comments are germaine to your question. My one comment to add would be to say, he is a MECHANIC, yes? Not an electrician, so his understanding of his "quick fix" may be lacking - he just knows that it seem to work. Regards Larry
