I would like to know what made it come out of the grove. You may have the same thing again if not corrected. You can file up if not broken or worn just to get burrs off. Be careful to keep from creating a bevel on gears as this will make slip out of gear. I would't cut grove deeper it will make snap ring run loose in grove. This had to have a side load on the gear to pop it out. It is possible it wasn't all the way in to start with. Do some detective work on this wouldn't want to go through this twice.
