This tractor is uncharted territory for me as I have only run John Deeres and there are very few Moline tractors in this area. I have not had a chance to drive the tractor and see what may be the problem with it. I am just trying to get some pointers for things that are normal or abnormal for this model so I don't waste my time and his money. It's a nice original tractor but it has sat for the better part of 20 years in the barn which made me wonder if the crank pilot bearing had some corrosion or dirt/clutch dust in it making the transmission input shaft spin causing the gear clash that he speaks of.
