I am still missing something. I looked at the tractor today and do not see a bell housing or a window to the fly wheel. On the H balancer/pulley, I see a mark but nothing to reference it to, ie an index plate. The mark may be a ding from a wrench or rock.
Unless I am missing something, I can't use the injector pump to time it because the pump has been off and rebuilt and the tractor has been turned over while the pump was off. The injector pump drive gear is not aligned to the fly wheel-cam shaft and the #1 compression stroke.
Looking at the service manual, If I disassemble the front of the tractor and expose the flywheel, there should be an index mark on the flywheel and the cam gear that will time the crank to the cam. If I turn the engine over until I am on the compression stroke in #1 with both valves closed, then how do I determine 4' ATDC? There does not appear to be a scale on the crank-cam alignment (although I am just looking at a picture in the book).
If I could figure that, I could install the injector pump and follow the manual to static time it.
I have not disassembled the crank-cam gears so it is on the same setting it has been on since 1972.
