I am going to try to add a link to my SP 168. If it doesn't work the picture is in the tractor photos section.
My SP 168 has a 14 foot header. If I remember my sales literature correctly you could get a 12 foot head also. The serial number is on the Right hand side (standing at the back of the machine)about eye level near the end of the straw walker area.
Not much to check, just a simple old machine. More than likely the electric fuel pump just above the fuel tank will need to be replaced. Make sure the roller chain that operates the steering is tight and does not have any kinks. I am guessing this needs to be well lubricated. It looks to light to do the job and I have considered replacing mine with heavier chain.
When I was bringing this one home a man saw it and told me had run 2 of them years ago. He bought one new and it was under powered. The 3rd year he cut with it he decided to cut a hole in the exhaust manifold and add an other straight pipe. He claimed this made all the difference in the world. He bought the second one after it was traded in because it lacked power and he did the same thing to it. I have looked mine over and I think he is right.
I don't think I will modify mine. I only have 20 acres of wheat to cut. I have an Oliver 535, 431, 40, 2 - 35's plus this MM. I think the 6 of them can get it cut. However I might modify the exhaust if I decide to take all of them on the custom cutting run.
