My personal opinion is that the 3 cylinder versions especially AD 152 are the best. The engine is so well suited to tractor/agricultural use. Very strong and torquey, good starter even when well used and perhaps above all very thifty on diesel.Spares are reasonably priced and readily available. The engine is straightforward to work on but if in good fettle and looked after will go on for astonishingly long hours. Personally I think in Britain petrol(gas) tractors have had their day for any serious work. The cost of fuel is simply to high to be economic. The 4 cylinder diesel engines are alright but when worn can be difficult to start and lack the power of 3 cylinders. However I was always a real fan of the Ferguson TE20 Standard engine, Petrol or TVO.A sweet and delightful machine.
