While it looks similar to the early MF series loaders I don't think it is. Even the early MF/Davis 99 loader on the online parts books has the distinctive style of the latter ones. They all have a much heavier frame and lift arms by the look of it. Perhaps there is a strainer in that fitting if it is the suction/intake side. Sure looks like it's a plain cap not meant for pressure, similar to a plumbing cleanout. Only way to find out is to take it off and look. You might find a metal screen/sleeve in there. Symptoms are similar to low oil level or, clogged filter/strainer. Are the cylinders double acting --- pressure down as well as lift? If not, then it will require a higher oil level than a double acting system. After you added oil, did it go higher before starting to shudder? If so maybe it's just low and I would add a bit more in increments until it goes all the way up without shuddering. However, after each top-off, I would let it all the way down to make sure there is room for more and it doesn't come spitting out the top. If there is a breather at the top, you may want to clean it first.
