I just got done doing my MH 33.. I wired mine just the same as was shown in the original manual for the most part...
You run a wire from the "BATT" post on alternator to the DISCHARGE side of the Ammeter, NOT the charge side. If you hook the wire to the charge side of the ammeter IT WILL NOT SHOW A CHARGE, as the charge current will be on the wrong side of ammeter.. GO AHEAD, ASK ME HOW I KNOW.
From the CHARGE side of the ammeter you will have a wire running to the push button terminal that is always hot (just as original)
The #1 post on a 3-wire will be the one you will either tie in at the coil or ign. switch with the diode in the line.
#2 post can be "jumped" back to the BATT post.
The biggest challenge, at least on my 33, was getting the alternator "inline" so the belt tracked straight.. I ended up making my own mount.
