The 4200 series was generally a reasonable model. The earlier predecessor 300 series was better though, but finding one with low hours is getting difficult. The power shuttle in the early 4200 series had a few problems, cooling issues with the clutch packs and both the forward and reverse clutch pack "covers" unscrewing from the drum. The cooling problems were eliminated in the later models, and are distinguishable by the addition of an external hydraulic filter (only power-shuttle models) . Earlier models only used washable strainers and a centrifugal filter. The clutch pack issues were fixed under warranty by the addition of "Loctite" on assembly. Check the steering once the machine is warmed up to running temp, for any "heaviness". The tandem gear pumps were prone to wear and eventual failure. As with most Masseys, check that the PTO shuts off cleanly when disengaged. If you do buy it, I'd recommend the fitting of a pre-cleaner to the air box, as these were never fitted from factory and choked filters easily especially in dusty conditions. Check the hours on the machine and it's service history before purchasing. Evan.
