Hello John - That blow-by is caused by worn sleeves and rings. There is normally a crankcase vent pipe on the perkins - about 1/2" diameter pipe running from the top front of the valve cover down past the crankshaft pulley. No PCV. This pipe may be plugged, or the blow-by is just too much for the pipe to handle. They will run for a long time that way as long as the oil pressure is ok. Messy, but there's usually not a lot of oil blown out to mess up the ground. More goes out the exhaust. When you do get ready to overhaul, the Perkins is the cheapest and one of the easier ones to overhaul, and parts (Perkins - and MF replacement) are somewhat cheaper here in Canada.
