check your Bendix drive gear to ring gear contact when engaged, if it is too tight(must have some back lash) you will need to shim up the pony.If good then you have a clutch on the pony motor that is either hanging up on the clutch disk and spinning the Bendix gear as it enters the teeth in the ring gear or the clutch cover is adjusted incorrectly and clamping the clutch disk to soon, this spins the Bendix drive gear before it has engaged in the ring gear. I have found that a pony transmission tear down cleaning and inspection will get you the best results. You may be looking for a quick fix. If so remove the two screws and cover on top of the transmission and locate the three 1/4 bolts and jam nuts in the clutch cover.Loosen the jam nuts and back out each bolt 1/4 turn and jam the nuts. this will delay clutch engagement, allowing you to mesh with the flywheel before full clutch engagement.If you find that now the pony clutch slips you will need to do a rebuild of the pony clutch.
