My info states last serial number of 1972 4020 to be 270288 and I think it is in JD possesion.I am not 100% sure as my info has been off before.I understand the 4000 gases were made in 71/72?and there were only 290+ made. Now the question. How many 4000 diesels were made after 270000 and did Deere use all of the numbers as I understand from 4000 expert who retired from JD that sometimes things happened on the line to pull one off and serial number wasnt reused. If the first[69/72] 4020 was 201000 and last 270288 that leaves 69288 possible numbers for 4020&4000s of which we know 55,851 were 4020s and 8095 were 4000.I might be off but could 5342 # have not been used.I actually saw 3 4000s over 270000 in one place but being there were 7 late 4020 to 1 4000 there could be around 90 unless several serial# were not used. Not a big deal but was asked this question and I dont know if there is an answer.Time to plant corn but weather and ground temp are not good in our area.
