Most 2 cylinder John Deeres use a drip type oil check. A hex nut is turned out with a wrench, then if the oil drip and dribbles out of the hole in the check, your oil level is ok. The device is either on the fly wheel side of the main case or on the clutch side. Depends on the year. It is parrallel to ground and about 2.5 inches long. Very hard for me to describe, look for something sticking out of the case that is different from any hex head device you've ever seen. That will be it.
