Big Jim, I use a 273 that should have been scrapped out years ago. Last year mine started shearing bolts. I had to slow down the pto speed a little to get it to run. After a bolt sheared I started looking over the hole baler. 1) Rust and age had broken the right side mont on the knotters. This kept the needles from fully retracting and the safty dog was still up enough to catch the plunger. 2)The balers timing was off by one chain link. This added to the problem. 3)The shear knife on the plunger was in bad shape, this caused problems in the thicker windrows. I was able to test the baler by feeding it broken up mulch bales with a pitch fork. It is easier to work on in the yard than the field. Steve from new holland may know how to check and set the timming. I've loned out my book ot someone who has lost it. Good luck. WaynO.
