Hi Tom, We have tried lots of different things down through the years. Gates, piece of railroad rail, etc, but the best thing I have found is our old bermuda grass scratcher that daddy had a 3 pt hitch put on many years ago. It was originally horse drawn, I think. I only plant about 4 or 5 acres for a corn patch and garden, but it works well for me. I break first with an old disk plow, disc with the harrow and finally use the scratcher to drag most of the dead grass out and smooth it off. Works good. I like it because it can be lifted and drop off the grass. Good luck.
