That was an outfit that sprayed the seed with a slight mist of water and that would make the buckhorn seed stickey and with the mixer they had that was all one unit, sorry I dont remember just how it was made as it has been 30 years since I saw it at the local seed plant but the idea was the buckhorn seed being stickey several seeds would stick together but they would not hang to the clover seed so the several buckhorn seed would not pass thru the screen that the clover seed whould when it got delievered to the fanning mill after going thru the moisting prosess and therefore was divirted away from the good seed into the dirt pile. They would usually do it in the winter months but the clover seed was usually run thru the fanning mill in about september and the clover seed was always made from the second cutting that instead of mowing for hay was left go to get ripe. That was the time of the year that nothing else was being cleaned that they had to clean out the cleaner from one crop to anouther. Not all seed plants had those units, only the ones that were able to sell certified seed or at that time they were allowed to sell one year from certified seed in wheat, oats and soybeans and it was cheaper than the certified but that was back befor the big seed companys got into having their own varities of seed and all the certified seed was from the publick varities from the states.
