I have learned that its best to start by seeing what a new part would cost first and for several reasons. 1-to see if it is still available. 2-if it is available see what the cost is, this gives you a way to value a used part. 3-if the price of a new one is cheap enough you dont have to waste any time building a new one or finding a used one. Working as a parts man I have seen many times where the customer spent $50 on building a part when the OEM was $10. OEM parts are occaisionally decently priced. Take it from someone with experience being on both sides of the counter.
