Hi all. Recently picked up what I believe is an old deere van brunt Model F--wood boxes, steel wheels, fertilizer/grain/grass boxes. It came with the setup/operating manual that looks as old as it does, but then, who knows if it"s original. On the right side of the drill are two numbers: F-127-M is on the side of the grass seed box, and T-138-M is on the side of the main box. Wondering if anyone can help on the year out of curiosity.
Second, it"s missing the drive gear that runs the feed on the grass box. From the book it seems to be part F45M, which seems to be a 28 tooth gear. I"d love to get that box functioning and am wondering if anyone has any info on the size/pitch of that gear, and/or how long it"s collar was. I believe the center of the gear was actually a long protruding collar with a square shaft, that slid over the square drive shaft for the small box. The picture in the manual shows a flat gear for the part I'm after, but the optional high-speed gear (F107M) has the collar, so I think it's just an illustration thing.

As simple as a box plow appears, it can be rather challenging to make work correctly. In our sandy soils of Florida, traction is king. You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U
